Parenting Recipes for Nurturing Nourishment
A cookbook for parents who want to raise holistically healthy eaters.
What if feeding ourselves and our little ones was free of confusion and guilt?
What if we we didn’t have to feel overwhelmed by conflicting information that pulled us away from our body’s innate knowing of what and when to eat?
What if we didn’t have to feel ashamed or guilty about how we feed our babies, whether by breast/chest or bottle, formula or breast/chest milk?
Right now, you may have a LOT of feelings about feeding your little one, and do not pay much attention to feeding yourself.
There is so much information, mostly opinions, out there telling parents about schedules, and breast/chest feeding vs. formula/bottle feeding and then insisting that only locally sourced, organic foods pureed at home will be good enough! Blah! Blah!
A few of us can do all of this. Most of us can’t. And, we really and truly don’t need to.
Sure, our babies don’t come with instruction manuals, but thousands of years of evolution have given us ways of knowing what to do when we tune into what our own bodies and our babies are telling us.
Imagine tuning into your own body, and that of your child(ren), and letting that be your guide.
You CAN confidently nourish yourself and your baby.
At Avalon Psychotherapy Associates, we believe in peaceful parenting, intuitive eating, and Health At Every Size.
Healthy eating isn’t about calories and content.
It’s about our whole relationship with nourishment, mind and body.
Is it truly healthy if it makes us stressed out and miserable?
We don’t think so.
Parenting Recipes for Nurturing Nourishment is Psychotherapist and Dietitian-designed to give you permission to tune into your body and your baby and listen to knowing you both share.
And, we were never meant to care for our littles alone.
We also know that partners matter.
The birthing parent needs nurturing and support.
Partners need to share in the intimate bonding experience of feeding their little ones.
Included in the cookbook is guidance for the “Sous Chef” in how to be an active participant.
Inside, you’ll find steps for letting go of the pressure to eat and feed a certain way. Instead, focus on what works well for you and your baby, toddler, or young child.
With recipes for:
- feeding the nursing parent,
- creating a nursing experience while breast/chest feeding,
- how to let go of controlling how children eat and have more peace at meal-time,
- making peace with your changing body, and
- guidance for the “Sous Chef” providing important support for the nursing parent and child,
you’ll learn simple ways of caring for yourself and your little one while nourishing both of you.
Frequently Asked Questions
Are there recipes for meals in this cookbook?
There are no recipes for meals in this cookbook. The “recipes” are suggestions for what to focus on with you and your child to create a holistically healthy eating experience.
Is this cookbook helpful to parents who are bottle feeding breast/chest milk or formula?
Yes! I believe that “fed is best.” There is no one right way to feed a baby and there are many different circumstances that families face when it comes to feeding, so, no finger-pointing here! I take a holistic view and encourage parents to consider not just the type of food that a baby is given, but also how is it working for baby and parent? If the type of feeding is causing stress, it’s not healthy. I support what works.
Is this cookbook appropriate for gender-non-conforming families and LGBTQ+ families?
Yes! This cookbook is for everyone. I hope everyone will feel seen in the images and language. Please let me know if you see something that feels exclusionary!
