The shift from summer to fall can feel abrupt.
One minute, we’re moving at the pace of warm evenings and lingering light.
The next, we’re knee-deep in school schedules, work deadlines, and the holiday countdown.
It’s easy to jump straight into “go mode” without taking a breath to close one season and begin another with intention.
But without that pause, we risk losing the ease, connection, and joy we cultivated over the summer.
Setting intentions for the season ahead isn’t about rigid goals or impossible standards.
It’s about aligning how you spend your energy with what you value most — and letting that guide your choices in the months ahead.
An Invitation
Imagine the fall has passed into winter.
The holidays are over and you’re looking back on the season.
- What do you want to remember?
- How do you want to have lived this season?
- What is truly important to you?
- What do you need to let go of in order to prioritize what you know truly matters?
- Perfectionism?
- Making everyone but you happy?
- Appearance over meaningful connection?
Let yourself know what is truly important to you — and let that be your guide as you say “yes,” “no,” or “not yet” to all the big and small invitations that will come your way this autumn.
A Practice: Choose Your Three
Before September begins, take ten quiet minutes with your journal.
Write down three feelings or experiences you want more of this fall.
They might be things like:
- presence
- connection
- rest
- creativity
- laughter.
Then write down three things you’re ready to release.
These could be habits, mindsets, or obligations that drain you.
Post your list somewhere visible as a reminder of what you’re working toward — and what you’re letting go of.
Journal Prompt:
As fall approaches, what do I most want to carry forward from summer?
What am I ready to release?
