Fear Is Not a Business Strategy (But Most of Us Are Using It)

Fear in Business: A Natural Part of the Journey

Fear is not a problem.
It means you run your own business. Congratulations!

Running a business means making decisions without guarantees.
That will always bring up fear.

The problem isn’t the fear—it’s what we do with it.

When Fear Runs the Show

When fear runs the show, it often sounds like this:

  • “What if no one ever calls again?”

  • “I’ll post on Instagram once I have it perfect.”

  • “I don’t want to raise my rates until I feel more confident clients will pay. Maybe I should do another training…”

  • “I’ll wait until I have more time/money/energy before I really go for it.”

Sound familiar?
That’s fear—not strategy—driving the bus.

Fear and Success: What Practice Owners Do

The most successful practice owners aren’t fearless.
They’ve just learned to notice fear, name it, and lead themselves through it.

And that’s what you’re learning to do too.

A Quick Check-In: Your Reaction to Fear

When you feel fear about your business, what’s your go-to reaction?

  • Do you freeze and avoid?

  • Do you over-function and try to control everything?

  • Do you second-guess or wait for permission?

  • Do you over-give, over-discount, or overextend to be “safe”?

These aren’t flaws.
They’re habituated responses.
They likely kept you safe somewhere else in your life.

But in business? They’ll burn you out.
Or keep you stuck.

Understanding Fear in Business

Inside Coffee With Karen, we talk honestly about fear—not as something to “conquer,” but something to understand, work with, and gently shift.

You’ll learn how to:

  • Notice your fear patterns without shame

  • Make grounded decisions even when anxiety is high

  • Build a business that aligns with your values—not your fear responses

You don’t need to get rid of fear. You just need to stop giving it the keys.
