Scarcity and Abundance Can Coexist

Embracing Abundance Amid Scarcity

Summer brings long days, bright light, and the desire to feel free, open, and full of life.

But when money is tight or the world feels uncertain, that lightness can feel just out of reach. We find ourselves caught between the reality of scarcity and the longing for abundance.

The truth? These two things aren’t opposites.
They can live side by side.

And when we let them both exist—grief and gratitude, fear and joy, limits and creativity—we create space for a deeper kind of abundance.

Scarcity is Real (and So Is the Grief That Comes With It)

Let’s be honest: it’s hard to feel hopeful when you’re worried about the bills. When you’re grieving what you can’t afford. When summer feels like a season you have to sit out of.

You’re not being negative. You’re being real.

Financial scarcity brings up deep emotions: frustration, shame, sadness, even fear for the future.

That pain is valid. You don’t have to minimize it to access joy.

Abundance Isn’t the Absence of Lack

We tend to think abundance is about having more. More money, more stuff, more opportunities.

But sometimes abundance is what you notice.

  • A neighbor sharing extra produce

  • A slow morning without obligation

  • A child’s giggle echoing through a too-small apartment

  • A borrowed book that opens a new world

Abundance is presence.
It’s attention.
It’s the practice of naming what you do have, even as you acknowledge what you don’t.

And often, abundance grows best in relationship. In shared dinners, borrowed tools, traded childcare, or a phone call that ends in belly laughter. Scarcity might challenge us, but it also invites us to lean on one another.

We aren’t meant to navigate hard times alone. In fact, community might be our richest resource.

Inviting Community and Connection

Try asking:

  • Who do I already feel safe and connected with?

  • Who could use a little abundance from me this week—time, presence, a shared meal, or a helping hand?

  • Where can we pool resources, energy, or joy?

From block parties to book swaps, walking clubs to porch chats—abundance multiplies when we make it communal.

“Abundance grows when shared, and community is its richest soil.”
“In leaning on each other, we find the strength to thrive.”

This Week’s Practice

  • Name something that feels scarce right now.

  • Let yourself feel the grief of that.

  • Then, name something that feels abundant.

Ask yourself: How can I invite more of that into this week?
And who might I invite to experience it with me?

You may be going through a hard time.
But you are not going through it alone.
